Business insurance for auto repair shops and dealers
Vehicle businesses have more than an ordinary storefront risk. Tell us whether you repair, sell, store, move, or test drive vehicles so we can separate customer vehicles, business vehicles, inventory, property, and employee questions.
Start with the operation
Separate the vehicles, property, and work
A quote may need to account for garage work, customer vehicles, dealer or parts inventory, buildings and equipment, employees, test drives, towing, and business-owned vehicles. What the business actually does determines which policies and forms need attention.
Questions that change the review
What happens to a vehicle after it arrives?
- You repair, service, detail, tint, wrap, wash, tow, or install parts or glass on customer vehicles.
- You sell vehicles, motorcycles, boats, powersports units, parts, or related equipment.
- Employees drive customer vehicles, demonstration vehicles, shuttles, tow trucks, or service vehicles.
- Vehicles or parts stay inside, outside, or at another storage location overnight.
- The business added a shop, service bay, mobile crew, franchise, owner, or location.
- A lender, manufacturer, landlord, auction, or contract gave you insurance requirements.
Tell us what happens at the shop or dealership
Start with the work, vehicles, locations, people, and deadline. Do not send driver records or full VINs through the public form.
What to have ready
Bring schedules and operating facts, not guesses
- A short description of every service, sale, storage, towing, delivery, or test-drive activity.
- Locations, building use, lifts or major equipment, parts inventory, and the highest value of vehicles in your care or for sale.
- Business-owned vehicles, demonstration units, tow trucks, trailers, and who drives them.
- Employee counts, payroll by job, and whether technicians or drivers work away from the shop.
- Current policies, loss runs, agreements, and written insurance requirements if available.
Keep these questions separate
Commercial auto is only one part of the picture
- Commercial auto covers scheduled business vehicles; it does not automatically cover customer vehicles left with the business.
- Garage or dealer coverage uses specialized terms for customer vehicles, inventory, test drives, and operations. Which options may be available depends on how the business actually works.
- Commercial property can address buildings, tools, equipment, parts, and other business property. Values and locations need to be current.
- Workers compensation, general liability, umbrella, cyber, crime, pollution, and employment practices answer different questions and are not automatic parts of one policy.
Next step
Start with the vehicles and work you already know
We will follow up for schedules, loss history, and secure records only after the request is accepted.
